Position: Technical Training Instructor (Information Systems Technician; Telecommunications eOn and Nortel / (IT) Instructor)

Description:

• Provide expert skills and knowledge in delivery of instruction to students undergoing classroom instruction in the above discipline.

Instructional expertise includes:

• Telephony
• Cable Plant systems (Inside & Outside)
• Private Branch Exchanges (PBX)
• Electronic Key Systems (EKS)
• Fiber Optic cabling and distribution
• Public Address Systems
• Automated Attendant and Voice Mail Systems (VMS)
• Special Circuits
• Use of various types of test equipment used in the maintenance and repair of telecommunications equipment, troubleshooting procedures and other telecommunications related courses developed within the Information Systems Technician school.
• PBX experience with the Nortel Meridian or DMS products
• EKS experience with the eOn Millennium products
• Voice Messaging Exchange (VMX) experience with Call Pilot, Meridian Mail or eOn Voice Processing System
• troubleshooting procedures
• electrical safety
• basic first aid
• CPR
• reading network diagrams
• basic understanding of electronics theory and operating principles
• the application(s) of existing and planned technology to communications requirements, equipment interoperability and compatibility.
• Expert skills and knowledge are required to deliver instructions.

Required Knowledge & Experience:

• Must possess a minimum of 10 years experience as a Coast Guard or Navy Subject Matter Expert in the Rating specialty required, or an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) from another military service (Air Force, Army, Navy or Marine Corps), or equivalent experience and education in the civilian sector. Experience aboard a variety of floating and shore units is preferable.
• A minimum of one year experience as a primary classroom instructor providing training, preferably with a Certified Technical Trainer (CTT) certification or an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) code.
• Speak fluent English.
• Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and computer graphics programs.

Physical Requirements

• Office and classroom environment that may include lab work, field trips, site visits, and demonstrations
• Some overnight travel required
• Some nights and weekends required
