Position: Technical Training Instructor (Maritime Law Enforcement, Boarding Team Member (MLEBO) Instructor)
Description:
- Provide expert skills and knowledge in delivery of instruction to students undergoing classroom instruction in the above discipline.
Instructional expertise includes:
- Instructional expertise includes: Must meet the physical fitness standards set in the Boarding Officer/Boarding Team Member qualification book. Requires physical exertion by teaching defensive tactics and allowing the students practice their techniques on the instructor in protective gear. Required to have a Law Enforcement Training Background, especially in a maritime environment.
- Must possess the knowledge and ability to facilitate in a fast-paced, scenario-driven role-playing situation and provide timely feedback and guidance on student's performance. Facilitates Tactical Procedures in a dynamic environment and provides timely feedback and guidance on students' performance. Knowledgeable in the operation of Firearms Training System (F.A.T.S.) and Range 2000. Maritime Law Enforcement School Boarding Officer Course and previous experienced as a qualified CG Boarding Officer is strongly desired. Must be able to effectively facilitate mock boarding scenarios including the physical requirement to climb ladders and move through small compartments. Must be able to participate as a role player during dynamic scenarios requiring the physical ability to be restrained in handcuffs.
- Instructional expertise includes: knowledge of Coast Guard Use of Force Policy; Defensive Tactics; Use of Oleoresin Capsicum (OC)/Pepper Spray; Use of Deadly Force; Weapons Safety; De-escalate and Survive a Hostage Situation; Coast Guard Boarding Procedures; Enforcement of Safety Regulations for Commercial Fishing Vessels and Recreational Vessels; Search of vessels; Search of persons; Weapons and Drug Identification, Handcuffing; Detention and Interview policies; Coast Guard Law Enforcement Authority and Jurisdiction; International law jurisdictional issues; Coast Guard Statement of No Objection process and procedure; Boating While Intoxicated; Case Package preparation and Statement Writing; testifying in Court.
Required Knowledge & Experience:
- Must possess a minimum of 10 years experience as a Coast Guard or Navy Subject Matter Expert in the Rating specialty required, or an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) from another military service (Air Force, Army, Navy or Marine Corps), or equivalent experience and education in the civilian sector. Experience aboard a variety of floating and shore units is preferable.
- A minimum of one year experience as a primary classroom instructor providing training, preferably with a Certified Technical Trainer (CTT) certification or an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) code.
- Speak fluent English.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and computer graphics programs.
Physical Requirements
- Office and classroom environment that may include lab work, field trips, site visits, and demonstrations
- Some overnight travel required
- Some nights and weekends required
