Position: Technical Training Instructor (Boatswain's Mate Afloat (BM-AF) Instructor)
Description:
- Provide expert skills and knowledge in delivery of instruction to students undergoing classroom instruction in the above discipline.
Instructional expertise includes:
- Experiences as Quartermaster of the Watch or Deck Watch Officer or Coxswain or civilian equivalency.
- Performing all tasks in a traditional classroom setting and/or while underway on a Coast Guard vessel.
Note: Personal protective gear would be provided by the Coast Guard.
Required Knowledge & Experience:
- Must possess a minimum of 10 years experience as a Coast Guard or Navy Subject Matter Expert in the Rating specialty required, or an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) from another military service (Air Force, Army, Navy or Marine Corps), or equivalent experience and education in the civilian sector. Experience aboard a variety of floating and shore units is preferable.
- A minimum of one year experience as a primary classroom instructor providing training, preferably with a Certified Technical Trainer (CTT) certification or an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) code.
- Speak fluent English.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and computer graphics programs.
Physical Requirements
- Office and classroom environment that may include lab work, field trips, site visits, and demonstrations
- Physically capable of performing tasks associated with the role of an able-bodied seaman.
- Availability as an instructor requires being underway for 6-8 hours per day year round.
- Some overnight travel required
- Some nights and weekends required
