Position: Technical Training Instructor (Boatswain's Mate (BM) Instructor)
Description:
- Provide expert skills and knowledge in delivery of instruction to students undergoing classroom instruction in the above discipline.
Instructional expertise includes:
- Experience as Quartermaster of the Watch (QMOW) OR Deck Watch Officer (DWO) OR coxswain OR civilian equivalency.
- Passing Deck Watch Officer Navigation Rules Exam.
- Demonstrated expertise in the field of shipboard navigation to include celestial observations.
Required Knowledge & Experience:
- Must possess a minimum of 10 years experience as a Coast Guard or Navy Subject Matter Expert in the Rating specialty required, or an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) from another military service (Air Force, Army, Navy or Marine Corps), or equivalent experience and education in the civilian sector. Experience aboard a variety of floating and shore units is preferable.
- A minimum of one year experience as a primary classroom instructor providing training, preferably with a Certified Technical Trainer (CTT) certification or an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) code.
- Speak fluent English.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and computer graphics programs.
Physical Requirements
- Office and classroom environment that may include lab work, field trips, site visits, and demonstrations
- Ability to perform all tasks in a traditional classroom setting and/or while underway on a Coast Guard vessel for up to 6-8 hours per day year round.
- Be physically capable of performing tasks associated with the role of an able-bodied seaman.
- Some overnight travel required
- Some nights and weekends required
