Position: Technical Training Instructor (Aviation Survival Technician (AST))
Description:
- Provide expert skills and knowledge in delivery of instruction to students undergoing classroom instruction in the above discipline.
Instructional expertise includes:
- Curriculum maintenance, including updates and changes
- Tracking required training for (AST) Aviation Survival Technician / Rescue Swimmer instructors
- Logging and tracking maintenance due on staff life support gear in (ACMS) Aircraft Computerized Maintenance System
- Scheduling all egress 9D5 "dunker" and low pressure chamber training with the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force for all students
- Tracking staff flight time on the electronic aviation logbook (EAL)
- Assisting staff with instructional and administrative tasks as required, including demonstrated basic knowledge of and rudimentary proficiency with industrial sewing and Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE)
Required Knowledge & Experience:
- Must possess a minimum of 10 years experience as a Coast Guard or Navy Subject Matter Expert in the Rating specialty required, or an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) from another military service (Air Force, Army, Navy or Marine Corps), or equivalent experience and education in the civilian sector. Experience aboard a variety of floating and shore units is preferable.
- A minimum of one year experience as a primary classroom instructor providing training, preferably with a Certified Technical Trainer (CTT) certification or an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) code.
- Speak fluent English.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and computer graphics programs.
Physical Requirements
- Expertise and experience required for instructional duties in subject areas including requirement to meet the Rescue Swimmer physical fitness standards IAW M3710.4 (series). This position requires extreme physical exertion teaching in-water rescue tactics including practice and test scenarios where full participation of the instructor allows students to demonstrate their techniques with/on the instructor. Must possess the knowledge and ability to facilitate fast-paced, in-water rescue scenario-driven role-playing situations and provide timely feedback, guidance and/or remediation on students' performance. Facilitate delivery of demanding physical conditioning training, rescue training and testing procedures in an extremely dynamic environment. Expertise includes prior qualification and practical experiences as a Rescue Swimmer. Expert skills, knowledge, and outstanding physical condition are required to deliver this area of instruction. Practice experience may be accepted in lieu of classroom instructor experience at the discretion of the Training Division, ATTC.
